Peru is one of the most diverse and fascinating countries in South America and the world and offers a variety of adventure trekking such as Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Chachapoyas tour, Trekking to Salkantay, Vilcabamba to Machu Picchu or Colca Canyon trek. Some of the main attractions are their archaeological patrimony of pre-Columbian cultures and the hub of the Incan empire, their gastronomy, their colonial architecture (with imposing colonial constructions) and their natural resources (a paradise for ecological tourism).
Most walking is on trails well-trodden by local people, but some of the more popular routes are becoming damaged. Little is done to maintain the trails and no guards control them; a few conservation groups are trying to remedy this. If camping, ask permission from the landowner first, and do not leave litter anywhere
