Doubts and Frequent Questions about 2 day tour Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu by train
Inca Trail Machu

How far in advance should I book the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu 2 day tour?

We receive reservations at least 1 week in advance. However, the quotas are limited and are always subject to availability. Both the entrances to the Machu Picchu citadel and the entrances to the optional Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu mountains are in high demand, in some cases being depleted months in advance. For this reason, we recommend making the reservation as early as possible.

What is the difference between Machu Picchu citadel, Machu Picchu mountain and Huayna Picchu mountain?

What is popularly known as "Machu Picchu" corresponds to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, which is composed of different areas, including the citadel Machu Picchu (the archaeological center or ruins) and its two surrounding mountains: Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu. The 2 day tour Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu by train includes the entrance to the citadel, not the entrance to climb any of the mountains, which you can add optionally to your reservation. You can review technical details, similarities and differences of the mountains here.

How long is the visit to Machu Picchu?

This Sacred Valley Machu Picchu 2 day tour includes the entrance to Machu Picchu for the first shift, from 06:00 to 12:30. This schedule will be divided as follows: one and half hour for a guided tour of the citadel, three hours to go up and down one of the optional mountains, and two hours to freely cross the citadel. In case you are not going to climb any of the optional mountains, you will have more time to freely explore the citadel.

What are the differences between the Expedition and Vistadome categories of the train?

The train to Machu Picchu Expedition category and the Vistadome category offer comfortable leather seats, and include a snack and hot or cold drink per person. The first and main difference between both categories is that the Vistadome train has windows on the roof of the wagons, which allows having a panoramic view of the exterior. The second difference is that the Vistadome train offers on-board entertainment services such as typical dances and parades.

How is the weather in Machu Picchu?

Machu Picchu is located between the Cordillera de los Andes and the Amazon rainforest, having a warm and temperate climate, with an average minimum temperature of 12 ° C and an average maximum temperature of 24 ° C. From April to October is the dry season in the place, that is, during that period there is a lower probability of rain, while from November to March is the rainy season, that is, during that period there is a greater chance of rain. Notwithstanding the previous differentiation, during all the days of the year there is the possibility of rains, since it is a subtropical zone.

Is it possible to add a night's accommodation in Aguas Calientes and return to Cusco one day after the tour is over?
