Ticket sales for the Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary have undergone a significant change. From now on, all Machu Picchu ticket reservations are subject to a 15-minute payment window only. Previously, reservations could be held for 3 hours. This new regulation allows visitors to secure available spaces in real time. During a recent audit, 8 travel agencies made reservations without completing payment, affecting ticket availability at Machu Picchu.
Culture Minister Alberto Beingolea announced that the reservation system with extended payment waiting periods will be eliminated. Only sales with upfront payment will be permitted, with a 15-minute payment window.
The Ministry of Culture modified the regulation for sustainable use and tourist visits to preserve Machu Picchu. Ministry of Culture Resolutions N.° 333-2026 and N.° 334-2026 establish new provisions for ticket acquisition, validation, and usage, as well as the documents visitors must present.
The new process establishes a direct purchase method through the TuBoleto platform.

When making a reservation, you have a 15-minute window to complete payment. After this time, the reservation will be cancelled.
New provisions now govern ticket purchase and use at Machu Picchu. The Ministry of Culture modified the regulations to control visitor access and establish new conditions for ticket acquisition.
One of the main changes requires tickets to be purchased directly by tourists or by travel agencies registered with the Decentralised Department of Culture (DDC) Cusco, through Tu Boleto or at authorised sales points.
Tickets are personal and can only be used by the registered person on the specified date, time, and circuit. Original identification documents must be presented to enter.
The regulation prohibits ticket sales through unofficial channels and does not allow changes to the date or ticket holder's name. As an exception, passport numbers may be corrected once if there is a clear material error.

Machu Picchu ticket availability is 4,600 in low season (January to June and September to November) and 5,600 in high season (July to August and December). However, there is a possibility that this availability may increase in 2027.
It is also important to note that this regulation does not affect in-person ticket sales at Machu Picchu Pueblo, where 1,000 daily tickets remain available.

Tickets not used on the specified date and time will expire permanently and cannot be rescheduled or refunded. The DDC Cusco only considers refunds for documented cases of force majeure or extraordinary circumstances that prevent visitors from physically accessing or reaching Machu Picchu.
To enter, visitors must have a valid ticket and official identification. It is recommended that visitors are accompanied by a licensed tour guide to help preserve Cultural Heritage and ensure an orderly visit.
Foreign students up to undergraduate level must present a valid student card or certificate along with a passport or visa. Peruvian students must present a valid card issued by SUNEDU or the Ministry of Education.
Cusco residents and residents of the Cusco department participating in social tourism programmes may enter free of charge, in accordance with the annual agreement between the DDC Cusco and GERCETUR Cusco. To access this benefit, visitors must register in advance on the official website and comply with the daily visitor capacity limits.
The regulation requires the TuBoleto platform to be implemented within a maximum of ten calendar days from the day following the publication of the resolution. After this period, the new provisions will undergo a 30-day pilot phase.
The regulation also applies to Inca Trail routes. Reservations made by an authorised Inca Trail tour operator are valid for 15 minutes only. After this time, the permit will be cancelled. For this reason, we recommend booking in advance.
